Wadhwani Initiative for Sustainable Healthcare (WISH), the flagship program of Lords Education and Health Society (LEHS) is screening people in rural areas with innovative touch free point of care devices (POCD).

Mr. Rajesh Ranjan Singh, CEO, WISH said, “I feel proud that people of Rajasthan are being screened for peripheral neuropathy caused by diabetes by Neurotouch and screening of cardiac and respiratory health is being done by Dozee. These two devices Neurotouch and Dozee are meant to address primary healthcare needs of the last-mile population in the state.”

Mr. Biswa Ranjan Patnaik, State Director, WISH said that people of 21 sub-centres and PHCs in 14 districts will be screened in the State. Elaborating further, he said that diabetes can lead to following complications namely diabetic retinopathy (eyes), coronary heart disease (heart), diabetic neuropathy (kidneys), diabetic peripheral neuropathy (hands and legs) and peripheral artery disease peripheral vascular disease (legs), which can be detected early among diabetics through Neurotouch device.

Similarly, with Dozee, a person’s breathing rate, blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, heart rate variability and myocardial performance matrix are screened.

He said that the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has funded the innovators who made these state-of-the-art POCDs.

Mr. Patnaik said that GNMs of 21 health centers in rural areas have been trained to use these touch free PCODs. A workshop was organized for Medical Officers on Saturday at Hotel Ramada in Jaipur to optimally use the innovative POCDs in screening patients for critical clinical signs and symptoms to make timely diagnoses and referrals. The technical sessions were addressed by specialist doctors including cardiologists and respiratory physicians.

Dr. Tarun Choudhary, Project Director (Maternal Health), Government of Rajasthan said that such devices and techniques will save time and money and will help in early diagnosis of diseases. PCODs will prove very helpful for people in rural areas to screen people who have limited access to healthcare.

Bengaluru based innovators Mr. Aashit Singh (Dozee) and Mr Vinayak Nandalike (Neurotouch) were present in the workshop to address the queries of their POCDs.
