Jaipur: The Congress leaders on Saturday again targeted the candidature of Somya Gurjar, BJP’s mayor candidate from Jaipur Greater municipal corporation.
In a press conference on Saturday, Congress leaders said that there are criminal cases against Somya’s husband Rajaram Gurjar, former chairman of Karauli municipal council.
Congress state media in-charge Archana Sharma said that the BJP wanted to hand over governance of Jaipur in the hands of people who have criminal cases.
Sharma also released documents about the cases against Rajaram.
“Even BJP MLAs are not happy with the candidature of the BJP candidate. What kind of progress Jaipur will witness under such people,” she said.
There is resentment in some BJP cadres over Somya’s candidature but the senior party leaders have defended the party’s decision.
The Congress is making efforts to disturb the BJP’s apple cart in the JMC Greater with support of disgruntled BJP leaders.
BJP won 88 of 150 wards while Congress got only 49 but the party is still making efforts expecting cross voting.
The BJP leaders are also suspecting cross voting in JMC Greater due to which efforts are on to reach to the disgruntled leaders.
Both the parties are herding their councilors till November 10, the election day for the mayor posts.
